We begin our northbound journey from Lisbon, crossing through regions filled with history, charm, and stunning landscapes. Along the way, we explore some of Portugal’s most iconic towns and hidden gems, each with its own story to tell.
Option 1: Western Coastal Route
Our first stop is Óbidos, a perfectly preserved medieval village wrapped in ancient walls. Wander its cobbled streets, admire the whitewashed houses, and don’t miss the famous cherry liqueur Ginjinha, traditionally served in a chocolate cup.
Next, we head to Nazaré, a traditional fishing village turned surf capital, famous for its record-breaking waves and breathtaking clifftop views from the Sítio.
Our third stop is Aveiro, often called the “Venice of Portugal,” with its charming canals, colorful boats known as moliceiros, and sweet local specialty — ovos moles.
Option 2: Central Spiritual & Historic Route
We begin with a visit to Fátima, one of the world’s most important Catholic pilgrimage sites, known for its deep sense of peace and devotion.
Then, we continue to Tomar, a fascinating town with strong Templar heritage. The highlight is the majestic Convent of Christ, a UNESCO World Heritage Site rich in architectural and historical significance.
Our final stop before reaching the Douro is Coimbra, Portugal’s university city, home to the country’s oldest university. Here, we explore its academic legacy, beautiful riverfront, and historic quarter.
We end our journey in the breathtaking Douro Valley, where the river winds through terraced vineyards and rolling hills, creating one of the most scenic landscapes in all of Portugal.
